I am a senior lecturer in the Particle Astrophysics group of the Department of Physics and Astronomy. My main research field at present is the ANTARES neutrino telescope in the Mediterranean Sea, which aims to look for neutrinos from astrophysical sources and from the annihilation of dark matter trapped in the core of the Sun.
My teaching activities in the Department centre around astronomy. I teach the introductory overview course on astronomy, Our Evolving Universe, a second year course on Galaxies and Introductory Cosmology, and a fourth-year course on Galactic Dynamics. I also give a lecture on neutrino physics as part of the graduate course for our PhD students. I am also the Department's Year Abroad Tutor - contact me if you are a student in the department and are interested in spending your third year in the USA, Canada or Australia. (Note that you need to apply in the first term of your second year if you want to do this.)
I am heavily involved with our Outreach and Public Understanding of Science activities. I run the Sheffield contribution to the National Particle Physics Masterclass and regularly give talks at local astronomical societies.
